Salomon XA Filter Cap Review vs Katadyn Befree [VIDEO]

August 13, 2020 by Jeff Pelletier No Comments
Salomon XA Filter Cap Review

I recently got the XA water filter from Salomon. The filter cap is sold separately, or bundled with a 490ml soft flask which fits perfectly in my Salomon pack. But how does it compare to the competition, namely the Katadyn BeFree that I’ve been using for the past couple of years?

In this post, I’ll compare the similarities and differences between the two filters, including the functionality, flow rate, and compatibility with other flasks.

It feels so good to be able to run again! This wee It feels so good to be able to run again! This week marked the first time I've been able to run on the trails and my longest run in over 5 weeks.

Two weeks before that, I had strained my hamstring during a run so I took a week off to let it rest. I obviously should have taken it more seriously as the following week I suffered a grade 2 hamstring tear while running in the snow. I ended up with bruising and couldn’t walk more than a few steps without pain.

If you follow me on Strava, you've no doubt noticed all of the rehab runs and strength training I've been dutifully doing as I work weekly with a physio on a rehabilitation program. I believe the injury was actually not the result of overuse, but likely due entirely to mobility issues in my hips and hamstrings. I'd put in a half-dozen days on skis in the two weeks prior and hadn't been doing a lot of running, but I had been doing a lot of sitting.

So I've got lots of work to come as I continue to address the underlying issues, to slowly rebuild volume, and to ensure that I come back even stronger so that I can set myself up for success for the rest of the season and beyond! 🚀
