Nov. Training Recap: Taper, Race, Recover

December 8, 2014 by Jeff Pelletier No Comments
November Training Recap

November was all about Chimera 100, my first 100 miler and my last race of the season. I spent the first half of the month tapering and preparing, and the second half recovering from what was a difficult but overall a really enjoyable race. It turns out that 100 miles really isn’t that far! (read my full race report)

I had a great time on the running leg of the relay I had a great time on the running leg of the relay at @coastmtntrail ‘s inaugural Conquer the Vedder this past weekend. The 15km course took me from Cultus lake to Vedder Mountain along beautiful, winding single track trails. I hadn’t run a race that short in years, so it was refreshing to just go out and run hard without worrying about pace and nutrition (and without 12lbs of gear on my shoulders). 😉 Big thanks to @tyholtanphoto and @srobarts for the great snaps. 📸

This weekend we competed in the first edition of C This weekend we competed in the first edition of Conquer the Vedder, a super fun multi-sport race by @coastmtntrail in Chilliwack, BC. What a great event!

Saturday was the solo, with a paddle board on Cultus Lake, followed by a gravel ride and run up and around Vedder Mountain. Sunday, I ran the run portion of the relay with @audreelafreniere and @alpineclicker who’d both done the solo the day before. We were all on tired legs but managed to squeak out a 4th place finish in the mixed division. Of course, we filmed the whole thing so stay tuned for the video.

Congrats to @garyrobbins and @geoff.langford on such a successful event. I know how hard they worked to put this one together and it’s sure to be a local favourite for years to come.
I finally tried stand-up paddle boarding last week I finally tried stand-up paddle boarding last weekend and I didn’t fall in! So I’d definitely call that a success. SUP is even more enjoyable and relaxing than I thought it would be and what a great way to get out on the water again.

We live just a few minutes away from Deep Cove which I suspect will be our go-to spot to launch throughout the summer, but with these new inflatable paddleboards from @goosehillsup we’ll be able to bring them along on camping trips and for recovery paddles after long runs anytime we’re near the water.

If you’re curious to see what it’s all about and to learn about our boards, check out my latest video on YouTube (link in bio). So who’s up for a paddle this summer?
Yesterday was all about pushing past my comfort zo Yesterday was all about pushing past my comfort zone. A group of us took a Steep Ski course on Blackcomb Mountain and spent the day learning to ski Double Black Diamonds 😳.

Don’t expect to see me in @salomon’s next ski film, but my confidence on the steeps has increased ten fold! #timetoplay
I’m so inspired by the people I met at the Namib I’m so inspired by the people I met at the Namib Desert Race, in particular Dr. Rob Ripley here who won the race at 60 years old. The idea that I could, in theory at least, return to this race in 20 years and beat a bunch of guys in their 30’s and 40’s is pretty motivating!

That’s why I’m so excited to be joined by Rob for a live Q&A this Friday morning on YouTube. We’ll be talking everything from training and pacing, to gear, nutrition, and recovery. Join us live to ask your questions in the chat! (Link in bio.) #RacingNamibia
